Question: Is there any relationship between Freemasonry and the Knights Templar?

Yes. Absolutely. The relationship between Freemasonry and the Knights Templar goes waaaaaaay back.

Freemasons built many of the Knights Templar commanderies, knights halls, churches, abbeys, preceptories and castles. In France, the Knights Templar were major financial backers for many major building projects, including the great cathedral Notre Dame de Paris, which was constructed under the direction and participation of operative Freemasons. Wherever Knights Templars built or funded the building of great buildings, Freemasons were heavily involved; from the Middle East, through France, Italy Portugal, Spain, England, Scotland France and other European countries.

So Mote It Be

smibinigoAs an author, I tend to be more aware of incorrect or questionable uses of words. It doesn’t mean I write – in any way – grammatically well or spell any better than anyone else, it just means people pay me to write words, and I happen to notice when they seem … “out of place” – for lack of a better definition.

As a Mason, I am occasionally part of discussions or scroll through conversations that are Masonically oriented.

A really idiotic petition to the White House

whitehouseThere are currently some really odd petitions that go before the White House on their petitions page.  The only thing that has held true since this petition system was created is that nothing ever happens, no matter how many “people” sign the online petition, unless it’s politically expedient to make a speech about it.

Then a speech is made, and the petition is quickly forgotten.

There’s a new one that just popped up on July 5th regarding Freemasonry:

Monday profile: New generations of Freemasons seek to shed cryptic image

SquareAndCompassDan Truax remembers when one of his closest friends joined the Freemasons. He gave him a sideways look and a crooked smile and said “You’re doing what?”

That was about four years ago. Now the 44-year-old Onalaska man is a Mason himself; his buddy, Dave O’Neill, is preparing to serve his first term as head of their lodge.

Having found an outlet for their desire to better themselves and their community — and a sense of camaraderie they hadn’t felt since their days in the Air Force, they are hoping to dispel some of the myths that surround the centuries-old group.
